Product Description
This beautiful antique ring challenges most peoples’ conceptions of Turquoise jewelry. Turquoise is blue, and set in affordable Southwestern silver jewelry, right? Not always. In fact, pre-1900 the primary source of Turquoise was in modern-day Iran, where it has been mined for thousands of years as a highly prized gemstone. In Persian Turquoise one finds gems that are cleaner- free from the veining and imperfections of American Turquoise. The best examples were a pure robin’s egg blue, but they would also be found in green shades and every color of Turquoise in between. This antique ring, Victorian circa 1890, is crafted in rosy yellow gold and set with three delicate oval cabochons of Turquoise. They likely started out more blue, but the copper in the Turquoise oxidizes over time, giving the gems a greenish hue. The trio is set into a framework of fantastic antique Diamonds, each one hand cut, which glisten and dance in the light. While this ring is durably made and in very good condition, we recommend that it be worn with care due to the fragile nature of the gems and setting. Note- if you are looking for another excuse to love this ring more, Turquoise can be used as the “ancient list” December birthstone.
