Red Garnets are a classic gemstone- they are the January birthstone, have been used in jewelry by Eastern Europeans since antiquity, and are one of the most popular gems sold today. Unfortunately, most red Garnets (which fall under the Pyrope or Almandine subgroups) are overly dark or have a brown overtone that make them less attractive than other red gemstones. Not this one. We purchased this gem from a local lapidary who cut this gem into a custom round shape with concave faceting. We chose this gem for its pure red color- a true blood red. We then set it in a custom two tone gold mounting with a Diamond accent on either side for a classic 3-stone ring effect. Stunning!
