The Sapphire in this gem features one of the rarest hues for the species: a rich copper orange color. In the trade, orangish pink Sapphires are known as Padparadscha- but this Sapphire has a noticeable brownish gold undertone which removes it from Padparadscha consideration (to be fair, some dealers would call this an “African Padparadscha”). That said, this color is even rarer! We only see this color from the newer deposits in Tanzania and Madagascar, and like this one, they are often untreated, making them a collector’s dream. This gem was purchased by one of our collector clients who wanted to set the gem more simply, in a setting which would allow the color and excellent cutting to take center stage. This is a delicate version of a bypass mounting, set with graduated round Diamonds which make the Sapphire seem even bigger on the hand. The end result is a beautiful and wearable rarity that we are all in envy of!
