This custom bypass ring is an Opal collector’s dream ring: when we envision gemmy Black Opals from Lighting Ridge, this is what we have in mind. The gem has a coal-black body color with a flagstone pattern of red, orange and gold that play against steady blue-green hues. There is color from every angle! With a gem this exciting, the client really wanted to make the gem the focal point and not to detract. The bypass mounting allowed us to use a line of Diamonds to draw the eye upward toward the Opal without overwhelming the gem. It also allowed us to set the Opal in a protective bezel setting and sandwich it between the two arms of the bypass which keeps it safe. From the side angles you will note that the cutter left a few sandstone potch inclusions, the light toned areas, which do not detract from the gem. In fact, with a gem this good, the potch helps us prove that it’s a natural stone!
