Custom Tricolor Spinel Pendant in Yellow Gold

Who knew that the colors of Spinel looked so good in unison? We didn’t, until a client asked us to make this piece using stones from his collection of rare Spinel gemstones. Each Spinel is natural and of Burmese origin, but showing the variety of hue and tone available. The top is an intense red Spinel pear shape, the middle is a dark violet-blue oval Spinel, and the bottom is a medium-dark plum purple Spinel in an oval. All three are set in yellow gold heads which we assembled and strung together with a simple bail for a classy looking pendant. While natural Spinel used to be reserved for collectors of rare gemstones, new deposits in Africa have made it more available (it’s even an alternate birthstone for August) and we have enjoyed making more pieces with this beautiful natural gem material.

Details: 14k yellow gold pendant set with .60ct pear shape red Spinel, 1.75ct oval blue Spinel, and 2.90ct oval purple Spinel (all Burmese).
