Product Description

In the early 1920’s, wealthy Mughal Indians traveled to New York and Paris and commissioned fabulous modern jewelry using ancient jewels and Indian motifs, which eventually lead to an entire movement in the design world. While this isn’t a bespoke million dollar jewel, we can still see the Indian influence: the large, almost ostentatious pendant measures 2 inches in length, and is set with a spicy brownish orange Citrine. The overall shape is reminiscent of shapes seen on saris and other Indian clothing, as is the filigree work. In the overall beauty of this piece it’s easy to overlook the fabulous quality of the Citrine, which is one of the finest and deepest orange gems we have ever see; in the jewelry world, we refer to these scarce gems as “Madeira Citrine.” Simply stunning, all around.

Details: 14k yellow pendant with approximately 2.00ct radiant cut Madeira Citrine and hand-carved filigree, circa 1925.
