This beautiful Opal ring is a bit outside our normal range of Opals, but it was so beautiful and set so well that we had to offer it! The ring is crafted in solid 14k yellow gold and bezel set with a solitaire oval Australian Opal Doublet. This means that the Opal consists of two layers, in this case the Opal material is protected underneath a piece of crystal to make it more durable for a ring setting. Doublets are more affordable than solid Opals, so we often avoid them. But unlike the modern doublets that have a wafer thin Opal layer, this one has a substantial thick Opal slice, and instead of being backed to change the appearance, it has been capped to improve durability. Since this doesn’t measurably alter the appearance, it has less impact on value, and we decided it was a good option – especially for someone looking for a more durable Opal ring. Plus, this Opal features an unusual play of color in a puzzle pattern, primarily green but with good and blue hints, which is truly captivating. Bargain priced, too!
