Gents Opal Necklace With Ethiopian Opal & Lava Rock Beads

What do you get the man who has everything? Well, if he is an Opal fanatic, maybe an Opal necklace like this! This jaw-dropping Opal necklace was a custom creation for one of our die-hard Opal collector clients who wanted to celebrate the beauty of Ethiopian Crystal Opal in a single dramatic statement item. We designed the piece around the center Opal, which is an oval cabochon weighing 42cts and measuring almost 2 inches long. This gem is of top quality, imbued with every color of the rainbow. To match this Opal, we sourced a matched suite of Ethiopian Opal beads, each measuring 10mm and with similar color play to the centerpiece Opal. The client wanted to add length to the piece, and also some contrast. We ultimately settled on these 10mm round Lava Rock (or black Pumice) beads, which have a matte black color which allows the colorless Opals to shine. To mimic the matte black look, we used Oxidized silver to set the main Opal, giving it a gunmetal grey hue which is more masculine. The end result is a fabulous necklace- certainly a statement and way to dress up- but one that celebrates these new Opals in all their glory.
