Product Description
This is Horace- and he belongs to one of our favorite clients who snapped him up the minute he hit the case. This is an example of a Memento More piece. Memento Mori jewelry originated 500 years ago but was very popular in Victorian Britain- skulls, crossbones, and other reminders of death. These motifs were popular in art, fashion and jewelry and reminders to people that they should live their lives well, as death is always near. Horace was a Memento Mori stickpin- a yellow gold pin topped with a sterling skull, who was detailed with enamel and set with Rubies. Our client wanted to be able to wear Horace more often, so we remounted Horace into this newly minted frame of oxidized silver set with black Diamonds and matching Rubies. The gold bail is crafted from leftover gold from the original pin stem- beautiful 15k gold which is proof of British origin. We love Horace, and we love all original antique Memento Mori jewelry, so contact us for our current selection.
Details: 925 sterling and 15k yellow gold pendant “Memento Mori.” Skull coated in white enamel set with Ruby eyes. Frame set with Black Diamonds and Rubies and oxidized. Original pin circa 1870, frame current.
