This marvelous mid-century modern pendant has a whole new life as a result of our restoration efforts. This pendant had been the everyday-wear item of one of our longtime clients who purchased in in San Francisco in 1959. When she passed away, her granddaughter brought the pendant to us for repair since the bail was worn through. In addition, the prongs were worn (rare to see in a pendant) and it was so dirty that the yellow Diamond looked brown! Thus, we ordered a new bail in the same classic ‘rabbit ear’ style, new yellow gold prongs for the Diamond, and then set about restoring it to as-new condition. The result was no surprise- it looks just as it should have done- but in the art of restoration, that in itself is a success. The design of this pendant is a stylized feather, which was a popular motif in early mid-century fashion and design. The star of the show here is the yellow Diamond, cut in a modern European Cut round, and imbued with a pleasing and rare canary yellow color. We are so glad that the next generation gets to enjoy this fabulous heirloom.
