Mystical Black Opal & Enamel “Crystal Ball” Ring

This ring grants the wearer the ability to look into the future- OK, maybe not, but it is seriously cool. The yellow gold ring is round in shape, featuring a cabochon Black Opal in a bezel setting. The bezel is wide and features hand-inlaid glass enamel accents in an Etruscan design. The enamelwork continues onto the shoulders of the ring, and despite the ring’s age, remains in fabulous condition with only minor enamel loss. The shining star of the show here is the Opal: an Australian Black Crystal Opal imbued with a flash of blue-violet on a dark and mysterious background. This is a solid Opal, not a doublet or triplet, and it changes color as it moves, giving it a mystical quality. It is not far wrong to think of this as a crystal ball- the Opal is truly mesmerizing. Based on the design and markings, we think this ring was made in Europe in the 1930s. Originally worn as a right hand ring, we can see this as an engagement ring too (so long as it’s worn with care).
