Platinum & Gold Filigree Brooch set with Sapphires & Diamond

This brooch, hand made circa 1920, shows the fantastic quality of jewels made at the tail end of the Edwardian and beginning of Art Deco eras. The brooch is two toned with a hand cast and engraved yellow gold perimeter framing intricate platinum wire filigree in the center. Later Deco pieces were die cast and filigreed, in a semi-mass produced process, but these early pieces were still done by hand, each item a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Round blue Sapphires are collet set on the compass points, where the two metals meet, providing a pop of color and visual interest. At the center is a sizable old European cut Diamond of top quality, sizzling and sparkling from a milgrained bezel. This brooch is totally smooth to the touch, for comfortable wear on any jacket or scarf, but could easily be converted into a pendant or bracelet. If you love intricate antique jewelry and period details, this is a find!
