Product Description
This U Nardin chronometre is the rarest pocket watch we have ever offered for sale. Crafted by master horologist Ulysse Nardin in le Locle Switzerland circa 1900, this watch was the ultimate time keeping device of its day. The movement was designed for physicians (known in the trade as a “doctor’s watch”) in the days before medical instrumentation and has a stop-watch function for taking vital signs; it reads “chronograpo medical” on the dial. Not only does the watch keep excellent time, but all of those chronograph functions are working perfectly. The entire movement is housed in an open-faced sterling silver case – it is a large watch that measures 51mm across- and has a plain unengraved back. There are some fine spider web cracks on the white porcelain dial, but these are hard to see and do not impact the function of the watch. Lucky us- this watch came to us in the original wood and velvet box! This luxury watch is a delicate instrument. We warranty its function for 1 year from date of sale but advise that the buyer handle it and wear it with care.
Some history on Ulysse Nardin, taken from Wikipedia: “In 1889, Ulysse Nardin won a Gold Medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition, was awarded two Swiss patents in 1890, won First Prize at the Chicago Universal Exhibition in 1893, and many more. In 1902, the company started to deliver marine chronometers for the US Navy. The brand regularly won Washington Naval Observatory competitions and became the official supplier for the US Navy’s torpedo boats.”
