Red Spinel & Diamond Pendant with Fleur de Lis Bail

This adorable pendant is set with a gemmy Burmese red Spinel that mimics the finest of Rubies. Natural Spinel rarely gets very large, since the trace element chromium that gives them their rich red color also inhibits crystal growth, keeping these gems small. Thus we have to get creative with our mountings; in this case, we made a custom frame for the Spinel which is set between two channels of white gold. The top of the pendant, where a standard bail would normally be found, is instead a beautiful fleur-de-lis style accent with an elegant curlicue twist. This gem really comes alive in natural light (see picture number three) where flashes of pink and orange emanate from the deep red gem. Wow!
