Product Description
This original early Victorian pendant is a beautiful blend of colors, textures and design elements that look fantastic on the neckline. The star-capped dome was made circa 1860 when rose cut Diamonds were the exclusive cut of choice. Flat on the back and domed on top, these Diamonds sparkle in low light conditions and are set into a patinated silver framework laid into the soft yellow gold. Surrounding the Diamonds are black enamel details which take the form of the classic Greek key and scalloped designs, proof of the classical revival occurring in the mid 19th century. The blend of these different colors and textures give the piece visual interest and are undeniable proof of age. The heavy piece is unmarked, but tested 18k, and was likely a part of a larger design at one time. This is a stunning pendant and a perfect Victorian collectible.
You will notice a small post on the back of the piece- this is the back of the rivet that is holding the silver diamond-set star into place: this was the best method, prior to advanced soldering technology, to hold two pieces together.
Details: 18k yellow gold and silver-topped pendant set with .30ct oval rose cut Diamond (SI JK) and .52ct round rose cut Diamonds (SI1-I1 JK) and black enamel accents, European circa 1860.
